Felt Crafting Tools
4. Marking Pens
Before felting, guidelines are often drawn on the base to plan positioning and proportions. Commonly used pens include:

Water Erasable Pen: Disappears immediately after spraying with water. Ideal for short-fur areas and leaves no color behind.
Air Erasable Pen: Fades naturally within 7 days. If you want a faster removal, spray water and dab with a tissue. Leaves no trace, making it suitable for surface areas.

Permanent Markers & Gel Pens: These do not disappear naturally, but color can be slightly lifted with water and tissue. Use only on the base layer, as slight marks may remain.
5. Combs
Combs help achieve a natural fur flow and texture.

Slicker Brush (Blending Brush): Useful for brushing large areas and blending fibers to create the desired color mix. Highly recommended for smooth, even results.

Steel Brow Comb: Best for grooming smaller sections and removing excess or broken fibers.

6. Scissors

A curved tip scissor is commonly used for trimming felted fur. The curved blade offers better precision and control when shaping fur layers.

7. Nose Shaping Tools

For shaping realistic noses, two main tools are used.

Clay Spatula: Helps define the basic structure and smooth out rough areas.

Dotting Pen (Nail Art Tool): Adds rounded details and refines the shape for a more natural finish.

After shaping, pastel powders are used to add color and depth to the nose.

8. Whiskers

Nylon bristles from brushes serve as substitutes for real cat whiskers. Available in white, brown, and black, they naturally form gentle curves when handled.

For application, PVA white glue is recommended. It’s safe, has a slow drying time (allowing adjustments), and dries to a flexible, secure hold.
