How to Draw Felt Pet Eyeballs

1. Tools You'll Need

  • Two jewelry measuring templates (Hand-drawing Template Soft Ruler): one with circles (for the outline of the eye) and one with ovals (for the pupil)
  • Black pen (fine tip, non-fading)
  • White cardstock (as the backing for your drawing)
  • Soft pastels
  • Brush or cotton swabs (for coloring; use cotton swabs if you don't want to clean brushes)
  • UV resin
  • Glass cabochons

Steps:
Use the jewelry templates to draw the eye outline and pupil on the cardstock.

Color it using soft pastels with a brush or cotton swab.

Then, glue the cardstock to the flat side of the glass cabochon using UV resin. Be sure to pop any air bubbles right away, they can affect how the final eye looks.

After sticking the glass cabochon and cardstock together, cure it under a UV lamp.

Trim any excess paper, and your hand-drawn felt pet eyeball is ready!

2. Color Matching

Every cat's eye color is slightly different—even if they’re technically the same color. Light, weather, and angle can all affect how the eye color appears.

To get the most accurate color match, try working in bright natural light. This helps minimize color distortion. If the lighting isn’t ideal, you can temporarily use a flat-backed glass cabochon to test the placement without delaying your process.
