Choosing the Right Material: Resin, Polymer Clay, or Stone Clay
When creating a custom pet bobblehead, we generally use one of three materials: resin, polymer clay, or stone clay.
For bobbleheads that stand 7 inches or taller, we craft them from resin because it’s lightweight, durable, and easy to capture fine details.
Smaller bobbleheads, 6 inches or less, are often made with polymer clay, allowing for rich color work and fine features even at a petite size.
Stone clay is also a strong, versatile option, perfect for custom pet figurines where we want a more natural, textured finish.
Each material brings its own unique style and feel to the final custom pet bobblehead. Resin allows for intricate sculpting and smoother surfaces, polymer clay offers vivid color and flexibility for minor adjustments, and stone clay adds a rustic, handcrafted look.
Reviewing the First Draft and Suggesting Revisions
Because our artists work solely from your photos, we send you a preliminary version of your custom pet bobblehead before finalizing it. This allows you to review the likeness and request adjustments so that every detail matches your pet perfectly.
Resin bobbleheads:
Before painting begins, we’ll send you a photo of the unpainted sculpt so you can review shapes and contours. Once you’re satisfied, we’ll add color and send you another preview image to make sure the colors are accurate before sealing the piece.
Polymer clay bobbleheads:
These are sculpted using polymer clay that matches the color of your pet’s fur as closely as possible, or they may be hand-painted by our artists, so the preview image we send you will already show the pet bobblehead fully colored and you can focus on suggesting any color or shape tweaks if needed.
What to Check and How to Give Feedback
Your feedback is vital to making sure your personalized pet bobblehead is a perfect representation of your furry friend. Please feel free to send clear, well-lit reference photos along with your comments so our artists can understand exactly what to adjust. Here are some areas to look at closely:
Face: Shape and color of the eyes, eye spacing, face shape (is it too round or too narrow?), ears (size and shape).
Body: Overall body size, tail shape, and posture.
Fur color: Check that the color and markings match your pet’s coat.
